The Hobbit is a Go

It seems that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have overcome their differences and put aside their disputes over accounting practices. Jackson and his wife will be acting as producer on The Hobbit which is scheduled for 2010. They are scheduled to hire a screenwriter and director some time in the coming year.

The Realism of Space Combat

Does anyone know of a movie or book that portrays spaceflight or space combat more realistically? Star Wars is way off, though I did read an interesting article on how the Astromech droids simulate aerospace combat for the pilot by supplying the sounds of engines, blaster fire, and the sensation of air needed to steer. Star Trek is not as bad; The ships travel upto 10 times the speed of light only to slow to a crawl and fight like Spanish galleons.

The first Alien movie makes a positive step by designing a ship that doesn’t have a “face” which you wouldn’t need in a vacuum, but nobody’s done anything about time distortion during high speed flight, or dogfighting that uses inertia to its advantage.

This looks like a great place to post this kind of stuff. Do you guys mind I link to you from my sites? I think I’ve met most of you. I worked with Lance. I have photos of myself on PCKTBOT.
